I specialize in identifying and resolving root causes of chronic and hard-to-fix neck, back, shoulder and hip pains that haven’t been resolved by other therapies.
Sports MassageI’ve worked with Olympic gold medalist and athletes from all walks of life, but you don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy the benefits of a sports massage. This massage goes beyond promoting relaxation and pain relief. It can help improve your overall performance, cut down on recovery time for a current injury and prevent them from happening again. It helps release muscle tension and promotes tissue repair using active isolated stretching and much more. You may feel like a pretzel when you’re finished, but you’ll love it. If you’re a runner, try the 60-minute “marathon” massage. Deep and effective work from hip-to-toe, created for long distance runners, or those training for a marathon.
Deep Tissue & Swedish Massage
To understand the difference, it helps to to first think of the body’s fascia and muscles in layers. Every muscle, organ, nerve, blood vessel and bone are bound together by the connective tissue (fascia) creating a three-dimensional maze. The muscle layers run superficial to deep within the body. I use both deep tissue and swedish techniques all the time! There isn’t “one right way” to work the body- it’s what your tissue responds to the best. Swedish massage uses lubricant to glide over the layers, and can reach the deepest layers with firm pressure. There’s kneading, percussion and vibration of the muscles as well as joint movement. It increases circulation of blood and lymph, softens and relaxes the tissues, reduces cortisol levels (stress hormones) and just feels GOOD! Deep Tissue technique uses very little to no lubrication so that muscles can be hooked, or grabbed. It allows me to stretch and lengthen them, and to separate adhered muscle compartments. Strokes will be considerably slower and possibly shorter as I wait for a muscle release. Some areas may be skipped so that more time can be spent on the areas in need. Doing this provides better alignment of the muscles and less restriction in the joints, thereby improving movement and function.
The Body Alignment ProgramMost chronic pain and joint degeneration are an unnecessary result of how you sit, stand, walk and move. This practical, easy-to-learn program will teach you how to align and move correctly so you can eliminate pain and preserve joint health without therapy exercises. The Body Alignment Program is built into your very first session. I’ll do a body scan that allows me to identify what’s affecting your range of motion and/or posture, that could potentially lead to pain (if it isn’t already.) A customized treatment plan is then created that will help you reach your goals. Whether your goal is simply to live pain-free or you need to make major life changes to prevent surgery, you’ll leave each session feeling informed and empowered to succeed. In addition to my manual therapy, you can take away instructions for exercises and stretches that improve posture as well as function, and I have an arsenal of recommendations for natural products if you need more help with your pain relief. PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
-Fill Out an Intake Form
After booking, an intake form will be emailed to you. You can fill it out and return, or just fill one out when you arrive. Completing it beforehand helps me be more prepared to deliver you the best session possible but if you can’t get around to it, come 10 minutes early to ensure that it doesn’t cut into treatment time.
+Stay Hydrated and Limit Food
Your body needs some love! Keep well hydrated before and after your session for the best results, and try not to eat any heavy meals for the hour before your appointment.
+What To Wear
Think about moving with ease and the area that we’re working on. Is the area easily accessible? Think about your favorite t-shirt...don’t wear it! I use water soluble deep tissue lotion but I don’t want to stretch out your clothes with certain techniques. Shorts or loose fitting pants and a tank top or t-shirt are perfect.
+What To Expect
Sessions typically range from 30-90 minutes. You may experience some pain during the treatment but let’s call it a “sweet discomfort.” Think: John Mellencamp- “Hurt So Good.” Therapeutic pain is deceptively pleasant and nothing like the pain you may be dealing with on a daily basis. Plus, you’ll love the results, starting with your very first session.

+Number of Treatments
Did you know that some people have muscles that others don’t? Weird, I know. As unique as we are, each patient case will vary, but I can give you a more accurate time frame after your first visit. Generally speaking, you’ll experience significant results during your first session, but to say goodbye to your pain for good, I’d suggest the following:
Minor: 3-5 Sessions
Major: 5-10 Sessions
Complex: 10-15+ Sessions*
*For optimum function, think of it like wearing a retainer after your braces come off. Once you stop wearing it, your teeth will shift. Bodywork has that same effect and has the most lasting impact with continued application.
Need to Know Terms
Following the assessment I’ll work with safe and effective hands using an array of manual therapy techniques. By definition, manual therapy is a physical treatment used by physical therapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors etc. and is a means for treatment for musculoskeletal pain and disability using joint mobilization and any other technique that falls under this general term.
Trigger Point Therapy
A highly effective method of zeroing in on areas of the body where pain or tenderness is felt when compressed. I find each and every one of these points and hold the compression for 30-90 seconds allowing the release of tension within the muscle.
Pin and Stretch Techniques
This soft tissue management system is one of my favorite manual therapy techniques. It’s based on scientific evidence that muscles, nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue develop adhesions within and between them as a result of various injuries that include; sudden/chronic injury and pressure due to poor posture. They cause the motion of muscles and/or joints to change, resulting in a wide variety of symptoms, including pain, weakness, and reduced range of motion, numbness and/or tingling. I work directly on the skin, holding a specific area of a muscle while you move and stretch. That combination of compression and movement allows the adhesion to separate and is a highly effective therapy.
During sessions, it’s common, but you may feel pain in areas I’m not even working! This is referred pain. Our bodies have interconnecting sensory nerves that span large areas. When one area has pain within the network, it can be interpreted in the brain to radiate to the whole nerve. I encourage my patients to communicate this pain whenever it’s felt to help guide me to other possible areas of impingement.
